and trailer?.......buy it if it runs.

to do a hull repair that is taking on water. you need to do an inside out reppair...

that means you have to fix it from the inside first.....by scuffing the damaged area....then adding a few layers of fiberglass.
then on the out side a layer or two more....then some gellcoat then finally sanding smooth.

(fixing the hull from the inside uasually means that the deck has to come up.
that means, when you are in there, you will see wet foam....rotten wood stringers...and finally a bad transom)....

for a real good look at what to expect.....look at johnnys ..."pics of work so far" thread.

he took an old glastron 156 and turned it into a brand new beauteful boat.

with out seeing pics.....a one foot hole in a hull can be done in less than 16 hours.

cheers

Yes it comes with a trailer to, he said the motor hasn't been run in 4 years, it would be a good boat when fixed. He said it was pretty fast with that 80hp and 16' boat. I'll see if I can maybe get it for $300!!!

Every motor out there ran four years ago, that's not your concern, you need to know if it runs today. If he can't get it running for you to check it out, then consider it a non runner and of no value. The boat will need to be completely rebuilt, stringers, floor and transom. the trailer will need work also, tires, bearings, lights.....

Check out some of the rebuild threads and see what's involved in this type of repair and the cost. If you want a project and aren't planning on using it this season, then it may be a good buy, if you want to go boating this summer, it may not be the right boat at any price.

Ya, I realize what's involved in the repair, and time. He said we could try to start it. I'm not concerned about using it this year. I have a boat in the ocean I can use anytime, this one I want for a lake ski/tube boat

As for the hull repairs, would there be a raised patch on the bottom?? With the glassing going on there.

If he won't take the initiative to try and start it before you get there, and with the other problems I wouldn't mess with it just on principle of a lazy owner.

Very true, I'll keep that in mind.
