Re: hull repair

rubrail_001.jpgrubrail_001.jpgBack_of_boat.jpgrightside.jpg I have attached photos showing my problem. I hope the files open for yall. I tried my best to take pictures not sure if you can make heads or tails out of them. I like the idea one of you guys mentioned about bolting the hulls to gather. I think that might work on the side of the boat, however the gap at the back of the boat is so wide I would be afraid to crack
the fiberglass. i actually used some !/2 round foam used for sealing windows. I stuffed it up in there them filled with caulk. The rubrail on the boat does not cover the gap it just screws to the side of the boat.just above that gap. why are these pictures so small when I open them.?

Re: hull repair

Pictures are a bit too small...
Have you tried using "Photobucket"
Here is a link...Photo and image hosting, free photo galleries, photo editing
You can load your pics there and post them here...
So far this is as big as I can get them...

Re: hull repair

How about this?...May not be the 100% correct way to do it, but it worked...
I right clicked the image, chose "Copy Image" and "Pasted" it in the reply...

Re: hull repair

That is much better. As you can see I have filled the gap with silicone, however if you go around the hull you will see places where silicone came lose. In saltwater the boat takes a beating against those waves. Not sure if any adhesive will hold . In fact i once filled this void with adhesive. It didn't hold either. I am thinking of doing like someone suggested, bolting the halves together however I am considering some type of gasket material in between problem is finding something resistant to saltwater. Actually i think saltwater is wrong that water acts more like acid.

Re: hull repair

Regular caulking, silicone or otherwise, unless it is specifically formulated for the marine environment won't hold up...

I mentioned that the 3M sealants come in a couple of other colors...and they are the stuff to use, or something that is equivalent...
You could fill some of the gap with some insulating/gasket material or some rubber tubing/hose to take up some of the room so you don't have to buy a truckload of sealant...just a thought...
