hull revive and carpet replacement

I have a 1986 23' marlin empress cuddy and am goint to try and shine it up and make it look more presentable this winter. The gelcoat is heavily oxidized, I've tried maguiars oxidation remover for gelcoats and waxed it many times but the shine only lasts a couple days, then it becomes oxidized again. Any ideas on how I could make the shine permanent? Also I'll be replacing the carpeting as it is old and has holes in it and stuff. I'm wondering where is the best place to get it and what kind and how I install it? Also can I just install it over the old stuff or do I have to rip that all out? Also if I have to rip it out, what's the best way to do that? Any help would be very much appreciated. <br />Thanks!,<br />Matt

You can order carpet here at iboats.com and at many of the other online marine stores such as<br />westmarine/boatUS<br />Overtons<br />boatersworld<br />I got mine onsale at www.bassboatcarpets.com and it came with a nice instruction manual and carpet knives.<br />You can also get a limited selection at some Home Depots and Lowes. Personally I would go for the heavier weight 20oz (16oz is the standard) as they feel a little nicer.

On the carpet issue...it is just a tough nasty job to remove the old stuff. If you try to put the new carpet on top of the old it will have a spounge feel to it, and water will trapped between the layers. In areas where the carpet is molded/wrapped around corners use contact cement so it sticks when you place it the first time. All other areas use an outdoor carpet glue.<br /><br />The oxidation can be solved with buffing. If you are looking for a quick fix(voodoo wax, miracle restorer, oil base house paint additive, floor polish...) sorry, can't help you.

You should definitely tear out the old carpet..it'll give you a chance to really inspect the floor underneath and make sure all is well. Once you get the Big pieces out,<br />A 4" Grinder,+ a Wirewheel will clean up the rest of the Stuff...........
