Still looking for a good combo unit for my "new" old 25' Tiara. Will be used mainly for Great Lakes trolling for salmon. Some of the upper-end 900-series Humminbirds look to have some sweet graphics and features. Anybody have experience with any of these units? Do they perform as good as they look, or are are these mostly just gimmicks that I should not waste my money on? Should I just bite the bullet and drop the big bucks on something more like a Raymarine A65 or C80? Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated!

If I had a thousand dollars to get rid of in a hurry that would be one of the first things I would get. If you want to read more about side imaging try HERE

Thanks, Eurolarva. Sounds like people are pretty happy with it. The SI probably wouldn't be all that beneficial for trolling on Lake Michigan, as there really isn't much structure (at least that I know of!) where we usually fish. I just wonder if the SI transducer would be limited due to the lower unit of the I/O being in the middle with the ducer mounted to one side of it?

I have one. I'm still getting used to it. It's awesome the capabilities of it. I literally saw a pontoon boat ON the surface of the waster 50 feet from my boat. I pointed to it telling my friend I could see a sunken pontoon boat. He pointed to the rear and said NOT. It's that pontoon boat right over there... You can also look under docks 40 feet away. You can see fish under the docks if you know what to look for.

Bottom lock over about 20 kts is dreaming without an inboard transducer.
