i dont have a problem with the electrical aspect of putting it in but i took the boat out on the water today. and at about 3000 rpm the boat plains out and i get a rooster tail from the transducer. does this mean its not in the water far enough. or is it something else when the boat is just sitting the transducer is under the water about 4 inches if not more. i put the braket on the transom the way the instructions said to. if i lower the bracket the third hole for the screw will be off the transom. so part of the bracket will be below the hull. and i wont be able to put the screw in. thanks in advance for your advise.

Is this by any chance one of the new SI units? If so a rooster tail is very common on them. I seen the fix for it but would have to do some digging to find it again.

Set it so about ?" is below the bottom of the boat. Then tilt the back of it down about ?". This will not affect your readings.

You want just ?" of the bottom of the transducer below. If too much if it is below the boat it will cause problems reading the bottom. You want it to look like this.
