I had a paramount wide 3d humminbird on my boat and it finally went after about 8 years. I was thinking of replacing it with the Humminbird matrix 17 because of using the existing speed/temp already attached from the wide 3d. Any thoughts, mainly just for cruising ( depth and contour only needed). I have a 1998 180m Monterey. Thanks for any help.

I believe the speed and temp senders have remained the same. I used one from an old Hummingbird Platinum on a new Matrix 47 and it works fine.

Re: humminbird matrix 17

I just installed a Matrix 17 on a project boat. I have been running it for 2 weeks and I have to say that it is working really well. For its price, I was not expecting it to perform as well as it has in both salt and freshwater. My other boat, has a Raymarine A series 600 on it.

The included transducer can read water temp, but not speed.

Tom and Dan;
Thanks alot for the responses. I guess I'll give it a try. Like you said for the price probably can't go wrong.

I've had a Matrx 27 for the last few years and it has worked flawlessly. I finally got off of my hump and ordered the GPS reciever for it so I can utilize its GPS features and have a speed readout I can rely on.

Thanks for all the replies. I got the Matrix 17 ( used the old speed/temp ) and it works fine for what I need. I've used so many different ones over the years for fishing , but just needed one for cruising on this boat. It works great so far...
