Have an older Hummingbird 100SX Portable unit...would like to install a "pull apart" connector on the electrical line that connects the unit with the transducer so that i can semi-permanently install the transducer on the stern of the boat, then disconnect the power head when not in use and store in the house.. Hummingbird Customer Service says "no," don't cut the wire. Am no guru at electronics, but have stripped many an electrical/cable TV wire and added connectors in the past. Can it be that difficult/critical to cut the wire and install a quick-connector? Are the wires inside that wire wrapped a certain way? Anyone know the arrangement of the wires inside that wire?

If you do it and it fails then you don't have a unit at all and must buy a new one.
If you just buy a new one then you have two.

I would think the wires are very small in there, not at all like cable or house electric.
Good luck!!!
