Hope you all have the hatches battened down, and are below deck in a safe place. Keep your heads down and chins up.

Well, we done everything we've thought of, both at home and with the boat.
Now I just gotta sit tight and wait it out. It's going to be a rough night.
I'm most concerned about a tree coming down on the house.

The big boat is wet-slipped so the lines were doubled, canvas and electronics removed, windows and hatches covered, and have 3 fully charged batteries for the pumps.
Took this pic yesterday after storm prep:

At home: gutters cleared, yard stuff stowed or secured, Sump pump tested (and a spare), generator and chainsaw at the ready with plenty of gas, well-stocked pantry and freezer, extra propane for the BBQ, even gassed up all the cars (in the unlikely event of an extended outage).
Took these this morning. My trees are too big!:

All three of my surviving siblings are in her path. Worrying will do nothing. Waiting and hoping is the ticket.

Re: Hurricane Irene Be safe

All is still quiet in north west NJ. Had a few showers earlier today, but nothing lasting longer than a minute or two. Got the generator out and started up, checked the oil and filled with gas. Have 15 gallons of gas for the generator, and if that runs out, there are another 15 or so in the boat I can siphon in a pinch. All flower pots, pattio furniture, etc put in garage. Boats have extra bungies on the tarps.

My real concern is water flooding the finished basement. But the generator should carry us through, and there is also a battery backup sump pump too. The generator is only 5500 watts (240V) that is wired to run the whole house. this is very convenient, as all lights work and no need for candles, etc. And the frige, freezer, and well pump all work without having to make any special connections. Can even run one burner on the stove top to cook. And now with most lights being CFL, it reduces the load on the generator even more. Still, you have to be careful what you turn on, and remember to turn off lights when leaving rooms. its easy to exceed 5500 watts. Big storms like this can easily take out power for a few days here, so a generator is mandatory. I would like to get a bigger and quieter generator, would be nice to run the AC, but they are expensive.

I just saw a video clip of a boat moored in the bay break free of its mooring and just blow away..... Boats left in the water are going to have a rough time of it.

It is now 12:35am, Sunday, and the storm has made it to Southern MA. The winds are starting to pick up but no rain yet....

Here on Cape Ann weather conditions as of 10 AM at the 5 mile bouy is wind 31mph, wave height 7.1 ft..

According to weather news we will see the wind at about 50mph., 2-4 inhes of rain and 6-10 inches west of where I live. Storm is more inland here instead of on the coast.
