Re: Hurricane Irene --How's everyone doing?

2:00 Pm weather bouy report

wind starting to deminish, 29mph, wave height only 12.8 ft., no power lost in the city, neighbor had a large limb fall, he is out there now cutting it up.

Weathermen make a big tado about these storms on our local net work and get people rushing to the store. Gets us natives upset thinking that we are going to get a nice show of waves crashing on the shore, not even a Nor'easter, shucks.

Re: Hurricane Irene --How's everyone doing?

Well here's the latest........ Irene visited VT and kicked our butts. Mostly flooding........ Lot's of flooding and roads that have vanished. It has taken out many bridges, washed away a few local homes, destroyed roads. I have a small creek that comes from the mountain behind my house that is normally 1-2 ft wide and trickles and is now 8-15 ft wide and white water. The biggest scare are the boulders being washed past the house. Sound just like thunder.

If anyone knows the Killington ski area the main road is 1/2 gone. Facebook access people should look at the WCAX page for some photos of the damage......... a fairly large portion of the state has been hammered.

I am keeping a good attitude and just waiting for everything to subside. The weather tomorrow is supposed to be 78 degrees and sunny ;)

1.1 million power customers on Long Island. 449,000 without power and estimates of one week for restoration.

Glad I had a boat so I'd have that 2nd marine battery at least! I knew the boat would be critically important to our survival someday :)

I've heard the excuse "The boat would be useful in a flood.", but that's a new twist.

Re: Hurricane Irene --How's everyone doing?

Good morning.

Vermont got hammered. :(

We lost historic covered bridges and buildings that had stood for a long time. The river's are still rising, flooding, mud, rocks it is a mess. We lost a few bridges on highways and I dare not to think of how long it will take to recover.

I guess every cloud had a silver lining so I imagine this will be a great boost to the economy to rebuild all the damage (yes rebuil since repairs will not work) and create needed jobs.

Hmmmm did I mention I am w/o power :( but I imaging my house is "on the reported list"........

Re: Hurricane Irene --How's everyone doing?

Our city of 30,000 had very little damage from the tropical storm, a few trees down and very few lost power. Our lights never flickered, a tree across the street fell, no damage. Wife wanted to go along the ocean roads to see the roar of the ocean, waves only maxed out to 17 feet crashing along the rocks. Many of the locals came out too as cars were bumper to bumper going along the shore, people pulling over to the side of the road to take pictures.

Just checked the weather bouy and the highest winds were 31.7 gusting to 45 mph., most damage was inland and those living along fresh water rivers had extreme flooding. Here on Cape Ann we do not flood. I can not understand how people can buy houses in a flood plain today, only asking for trouble.

Hurricane Irene Aftermath

Hurricane Irene Aftermath

Hope everyone came out of this ok - I realize some may not be so fortunate. For those who left their rigs in the water - any issues?

The remnants of the storm are coming thru here today, not going to be anything to it other than a few inches of rain and some wind.

Been thinking about you Bob. Hope the battery holds out. Not going to call considering drain on services, battery etc. Watching here, will break my pledge if we see you floating by on the News

Thank you sir! - never noticed this thread. We'll be fine up here, should be no worse than a fall storm and a short one at that considering this system is now moving fast.

Dang shame to see those classic covered bridges get swept off their footings.
Hope everyone made out OK, a little inconvenienced, but safe is a good thing.

Best wishes Bob. Hearing of those bridges was a very sad thing. Sad for all of the people injured or killed in the storm so far, however I'm very grateful it's not more. Rolling through cities like NYC could've been much worse than it already is.

BTW - your "silver lining" comment is spot on. When Nashville flooded last year, it was actually something of a boost for our economy down here. The construction/builder industry specifically saw a needed injection of activity. I doubt any of us want to go through it again, but there was some good stuff that came out of it.

Re: Hurricane Irene --How's everyone doing?

Just checked my E-mail, and found the enclosed link in an e-mail from my neighbor up at Sebago Lake Maine.
HOLY ****!!!
http://www.wmtw.com/video/29008342/detail.html

Looks like all hell broke loose on the lake. The guy being interviewed is actually my neighbor.
His house is in front of mine (we're on a back lot). I can make out my neighbors dock thats from 2 houses to the left, when they start the shot panning from the right!

No Idea who owns the boat's yet, I'm going to have to give my neighbor a call.
I'm so glad we pulled the boat last weekend.;)
