hyd. trim block

I blew upper seal in out drive 120 merc.(1970)I was couple miles from marina made it back but blew upper end gears and other things. When I pulled to take to shop I noticed that hyd. ram hoses where they screw into block outside of transom (portside)Four hoses one is leaking it looks like it is cross treaded. I am going to replace block but can you get the block out without pulling motor. Thanks for any help

Yes, the block comes off from outside the boat. There are two hoses from the inside, but you should be able to pull them out far enough to remove them without too much problem. I would strongly suggest using flare fitting wrenches instead of open end wrenches. If you don't have a set, it would be money well spent.

As I reread your post I note yours is a 1970. My experience is with an Alpha unit - don't know if yours is the same or not. If not, someone will chime in shortly!

Fishermark, Thanks for reply I will try to look when I get home usally to dark to see maybe I can run a lite out to boat. Is there a nut on the inside that holds it on I know yours is newer but my manuel did not show I will try looking up on the web later Thanks again will let you know what I find......

I believe you'll find 2 Nuts holding that on,...7/16ths" wrench.........<br /><br />Pre-alpha,+ Alpha Should be the Same......

Bondo, how hard is it to reach them I just got home and I tried looking at it but to dark have to wait for weekend morning I should get my outdrive back wenesday. But will wait and put on after I fix the hose I did buy a new one is there any trick or just plain work at it slowly as to not strip any thing else? I am going to check web now to see if I can find a diagram for it Thanks for the reply.......

Lay down,+ Look Up,............ It's Plain as Day from There.......... <br /><br />3/8ths Ratchet,... 7/16ths Socket,+ Maybe a 3" extenstion........<br />Once the nuts are Off,........ Good Luck,........ <br /><br />If it's Not too Corroded,.... A slight pry with a big screwdriver will Usually do it,.....<br />It'll come down a couple inches to get at the Lines on the otherside........<br /><br />Probably otta get a New Gasket.........
