Re: Hydra Sports 1650 Key Largo
Does anyone have any knowledge or review of a 1994 Hydra Sports 1650 Key Largo? I have an chance to buy one and just need to know what the quality of this boat. Thanks in advance.
I believe I may have looked at the 1994 Key Largo you are referring to. ID # FL 6643 HV?
The Hydrasports 1650 Key Largo is a great small boat. These were manufactured for 25 years, the last ones being produced in 1998. I have one these 25th Anniversary Models!
The Hydrasports Key Largo is a superior built boat with NO wood and a combination of fiberglass and kevlar composites.
16'4" length, 6'10" beam, draft of 11" (motor up), 1076 lb dry weight (no engine), 115 max hp, 30 gallon integral tank.
Also on board oil tank! This boat is built like a tank!
All stainless steel hardware and paired from the factory with salt water engines and equipment. The hull is a modified Vee with a Carolina Flare for a dry ride (anyone who says this boat rides wet either has not ridden in one, or they had it trimmed way out of shape while running into high seas and a stiff crosswind!). Any small boat will get wet if you don't trim and run out properly! It has a large round livebait well and 2 large square dry storage boxes that can also be filled as livewells! Up front, there is a HUGE bow storage area! Horizontal rod storage compartments in both sided and vertical rod stows on both side of center console!
My 1998 has OEM power trim tabs and a power jackplate. These two items really make this boat's ride go from normal to superior! Yes, with the modifed Vee, this is not a true flats boat, but it is a great compromise! It rides way smoother than any comparable sized flats boat! You will be riding smoother and faster in the deep water run out to the flats, while the flats boats are having to slow down to keep from getting their brains beat out! You can go offshore to oil rigs and reefs on normal seas days - most flats boats cannot! The compromise in skinny water ability is very minimal - you can get within 2-3 inches of the same depth of where the flats boats go!
I love mine! I meets my needs perfectly. Light weight, lower horsepower, easily towed with smaller vehicle, economical to tow and operate! I fish both salt and fresh water. Rated for 4, but performs best with 2-3 (with jack plate, tabs and tilt/trim tweaked, I cruise at 35 mph with a top end of 48 mph!) - 115 Evinrude Ocean Pro.
The one I found had only 2 owners and both live 200 miles inland. They only used it on vacations. It had only 153 hours on it and was kept inside all it's life. The hull still has "shine"! Yes, this is a great starter boat for salt and fresh water.
