Hydraulic Fluid for tilt

1984 yamaha 175. Not that it may make any difference, but any recommendations for the fluid type I will need to use for my tilt/trim? Can I cut corners from a marine dealer, or "Yamaha" brand fluid? What is a good brand, that will do the same trick and will save me a little money? Thanks

Dexron ATF is the most common substitute.

Power steering fluid also works well.

I had to crack the fluid lines to lift my motor to get to my tilt/trim motor off for replacement. I do not know what type of fluid is currently in it. Do I have to remove whatever I have in there, or can I just add the ATF or pwr steering fluid to finish it off? Thanks

my book says not to mix it but i assume you couldit is a transmission fluid find out what kind .
