I`m planning of building single cylinder external powersteer to my alpha drive.
This single cylinder results in that the steering to one side uses more revolution from the helm than to the otherside as the rod does not go through the back of the cylinder.
How is the unballance of the single cylinder compensated or isnt it?

Ayuh,.... I gotta ask,..... WHY,..??

Change the cylinder mounting point to the long side of the bias...

Re: Hydraulic steering

Why?
To handel the chinewalk and steering torque better than with the cable steering and I dont trust the older typo splined shaft and lever steering (with some play) I now have anymore. I dont want to change the steering shaft for the newer quare one and still have to buy a powersteer setup, I think this is the most secure way to build a firm and playless steering.
I found an artikel that says that the unbalanced single cyinder version indeed need more steering revolutions in the one way than to the other :(

THanks!

Re: Hydraulic steering

The difference on the "number of turns" on an unbalanced system is usually small. I would just center the travel of the cylinder with the drive being centered. Other than starting from a dead stop, I have never counted revolutions of the wheel while running.

But, then again, I was the kid whose bicycle handle bars were always crooked.
