I put a new SEI 106 on my pre-alpha 470 bellhousing and found the outside tube on the rams interfered with the anti-cavitation plate. The rams may have pre-dated the boat vintage - but the tubing loop at the forward port on both rams kept the spacing too wide at the front.

So... I happen to have an entire outdrive and rams from another 470 (the outdrive I was going to use but had a bad bearing) about my vintage where both connections are at the stern of the boat (not one further aft out towards the end of the ram). I put that on today, and did a limited bleed, and heeded my fathers warning and kept everything as clean as possible. I also replaced the manifold as I wasn't happy on how one of the hoses was threading back in off the other outdrive/bellhousing.

Odd thing is, it went up great, but would not go down. I undid one of the hoses, it let out some emulsed/air entrained oil, and it fell. I raised it half way, asked my daughter to lower it, and it went up more.

What's going on? I flipped two of the hoses on one side, and still not acting right.

I have the aft most port on both rams connected to the forwardmost port on the manifolds.

Appreciate any help.

Sounds to me like you have a pump problem. All manifold connections are the same, holes closest to the drive go to the far end of the cylinders, ones closest to the boats stern go to lines nearest the stern.

No need to bleed the cylinders they will purge the air out on their own. You probably have a check valve stuck open in the pump.

Thank you - just to double check - port holes on my rams are at the boat side of the ram. Can you confirm which one is which in this configuration - I swear I matched what was on the borrowed system as well as on the boat, but would like to double check...
