Can this cause the hydro-electric shift not to work?

Re: Hydro-electric shift question?

L/U removed and service manual on the way.
Before pressure testing the l/u to fix leak..... I was going to replace the oil(type C) and connect a drill to the drive shaft, apply voltage to leads to test shifting function.
Is this a good idea for testing shifting/solenoid function....or is there a better/easier way?

applying voltage to leads will work, but you can turn shaft by hand and achieve the same results.

After you repair it you need to flush pump. I myself use ATF to flush it and you will need a drill to spin shaft to get the pump pressure up as hand turning will not work..

Re: Hydro-electric shift question?

I am using a loose fitting metric 12 point socket to turn the drive shaft.

Will this socket fit a '72 Evinrude 50273c?
