I found an old stingray hydro foil that I installed on a 1994 Evinrude 90 GT to get me on plane quicker..Worked great. Just fooling around last night I installed it on my 1969- 18 hp Evinrude .My question is will this "foil" have any adverse effects on my little 18 hp motor ? like overheating . I think I read somewhere that foils change the cavatations [sp] and could cause overheating? I would hate to burn up a good motors. if anyone has a pro or con opinion ,I would appreciate a heads-up...
thanks for your time

Re: hydro foil

It's bound to create a little drag which will slow you down somewhat.

Overheating? I doubt that but I'd suggest you keep your eye on the water outlet just in case.

Re: hydro foil

You're more likely to prevent ventilation or cavitation with it. It will likely have a terribly adverse effect on that little motor's performance since it's for a far larger motor. Small motor rigs with proportionately smaller fins are in the $25 range so it wouldn't set you back much to try. For some reason a lot of people look at the idea of drilling a few holes in their cavitation plates with shock and disgust but I have no idea why. If it doesn't give you a result you like then remove the fins and fill the holes with JB weld and get on with your life :p
