Hydrofoil with Trim Tabs

I have a 19 ft inboard/outboard with a deep v hull. The boat is sensitive to weight distribution (lists at high speeds) and it also tends to porpoise excessively in rough water. I am currently adding trim tabs in the hope that it will help this problem. I already have a hydrofoil on the outdrive and I am wondering if I should remove it or leave it now I have the trim tabs. Anybody have experience with this?

Re: Hydrofoil with Trim Tabs

I personally have not experienced trim tabs with hydrofoil, but I do remember reading somewhere that you do not need both. Trim tabs will take care of the listing and the porpoising...

don't know if you're putting Bennett Tabs on, but this website tells what the tabs do, and how to use them. halfway down the page tells how to correct a list, and at the very end is the section on how to correct the porpoise.

Get rid of the foil. You do not want both on your boat, in fact the foil may be causing your problems, I put one (foil) on my first boat and had similar results.

We're running a Permatrim on a 2120 Parker w/ Lenco tabs. Can't see any reason not to have both?

Yeah take it off, the foil is just a cheap way to try and achieve what the tabs do.

They don't really do the same thing, but with the problems you described you most likely only need the trim tabs.

And if I was jeffnick I'd try without the foil too. If you don't like it, put it back on . . .

The boat came with tabs. We installed the Permatrim for better mpg.

Mo stuff in the wawa rarely translates to better efficiency . . . ;) I'd love to see some data, with and without, same day, same speeds, same conditions.

In god we trust, all others show us your data :)

They dont do exactly the same but very close... Do you take Tylenol for your headache together with Excedrin? Probably not...
