Hydromechanical shifting mechanism

I need to know if I can convert a Hydromechanical shifting mechanism, to a Mechanical shift mech..<br /><br />I have a Johnson 1979 70 HP, and I got a 1973 Johnson 70 HP Hydromechanical shifting mechanism, not knowing that is was a Hydro Mech<br /><br />Help... thanks. :eek:

They are interchangeable without modification to the unit. Look closely at the linkage on the side of the motor and you may find one to be oppisite of the other. Keep the linkage with the lower and all should be OK. Make sure your 73 is indeed a 73 not a 72. Thats a whole different deal.<br /><br />Good luck!

It certinally can be done. I have a '76 200 hp. 'rude with '96 innards. I didn't do the conversion so I won't be much help but I'll bet someone here on the board knows how to do it.<br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty
