A straight side shot of the crankshaft taper... the complete taper from the bottom to the top of the threads would be nice.

Those small "Z" timer base retaining clamps just sit over top of the retaining ring... BUT... just enough to keep the ring from rising... BUT... not so tight as to keep it from moving/turning. The screw must be tight but the clamp itself NOT!

That flywheel crankshaft end looks to have no taper. The person who gave you the second hand flywheel. Can you email them a picture and ask what the story is about it? When they put the flywheel on for you they would surely of noticed that

Id go with Fazt on that then. You definitely need the ring though. The timerbase rotates in it.
Hopefully one of the two still works. That stator sure looks to be in a dying process

I have the ring it’s on my timer base, when I removed the timer base it was connected on it. I am going to clean all surfaces and put the timer base on properly with the clamps on. Then I will put flywheel back on with new flywheel key. I will torque flywheel at 145 foot pounds. Then when everything is put back together I will crank motor. I guess I will have to test stator
