Boy, I wish I didn't have to keep this clean becasue I would continue right in here with the foul language. Good thing the kids were in bed.... bleep, bleep, bleep.......

So I started off to polish and wax the boat. Got the port side done. Chance for rain tonight so I though I would throw the cover back on while still in the garage. Now, this cover is about an month old and it is a Sharskin $500 dollar one. Put the cover on and put the pole in the middle. Hooked up the truck and started to tow out of the garage. Dang if the darn vent pole didn't catch the top of the garage door. RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!! It ripped at the stich seams where the fuzzy stuff was stiched in. It tore righ along the sew lines both port to starboard and bow to stern.

I'll run to Walmart and Hancocks in the morning to see if I can get some type of material that I can sew behind it to bridge the gap and keep it water tight.

Son of a mother bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep!!!!!!!!!!

sounds like a job for the canvas shop. sewing a cover would take a pretty heavy duty machine, unless you stitched by hand, and keeping the seams straight, my head is hurting just thinking about it.
besides after the canvas shop is done the cover will probably be strong enough that when you do that again the pole will just bend.

Your real name is not Bill Dance is it ? :D:D

Everyone experiences an oversight from time to time, the one that is most common is forgetting the plug. Have you done that yet ?

I think I would bite the bullet and get a canvas shop to sort it out.
Sorry to hear that.

That makes two of us. With a new cover you don't want a botch job and you want it waterproof. So sorry to hear about that. That's a perfect example of "Murphy's Law"

I'm a bit confused? The boat is in the garage, its going to rain, you put the cover on it to pull it outside? If it was left in the garage it would seem that you could have finished your job with it raining outside,,,,,,,,,,,,,unless,,,,,your garage roof leaks. :D Or was this what you was meaning that it was a bone head choice :D

FWIW, 3 different launches at the public ramp yesterday was in serious need of their plugs before their launch. One was a new boat that had not been wet. Now its wet on the outside and inside :D Betcha he won't forget from now on :D

Re: I Am A Bone Head

Thanks guys on the canvas shop recommendations. I will give it a shot as I have lots of sewing experience and did some limited work in an upholstery shop once upon a time. I know my machine will handle the neddle and thread, but not sure if I get the excess to fit between the arm. If I can't get it, I will take to a shop. Only if the boat would fit completly in the garage, I would have left it in there. It was getting late and I was ready for bed.

Haven't done the plug yet, as it is on my launch checklist twice.

Man what a bummer! Don't beat yourself up too much over it.We all do stupid stuff way worse that that.

I dropped a brand new boat off the trailer on its first launch years ago.
My first Eazyloader trailer.I learned to never unhook the winch strap without the back of the boat in the water.
It was ugly.concrete and fiberglass make a terrible sound.....i was a newb back then.
The other folks at the ramp got a good laugh!
