2 weeks ago my 1796 evinrude 6 hp quit running normally, it would only run on full choke. I bought a manual and took apart the carb cleaned it throughly put it back together and replaced the diaphram in the fuel pump. It had a hole in it. Now I cant even get it to pop. It wont even hit with starting fluid. If I screw the needle valve all the way in where do I reset it to to get a basic setting, any other ideas would be appreciated. I am probably take it to Kings marine in Cape girardeau to get it working again. Have I overlooked anything?

using a rebuild kit in the carb. NEVER use starting fluid, use premixed gas. that is the quickest way to kill a motor. check your compression and spark. and i believe you have a 1976 motor, or a very old antique paddle. also remove the drain plug at bottom front of carb, and see if you are getting fuel.

biggest problem I have had lately with the carb kits is the gasket that goes on the intake tube not being thick enough. It has to be thick enough when you put the float bowl on it compresses and gets a good seal.
