At our shop in Texas we had five full time mechanics and three full time riggers. Now some of these riggers were not actually the brightest of minds. One day they were boat washers and the next day they were "promoted" to riggers. We had one that was installing a float switch in a boat he was working on. Everything went fine until the customer went to launch the boat. It was a brand new Stratos 201 with a 200 Johnson. The customer tried to back the boat off the trailer but it wouldn't budge. Pulled it back out of the water just to make sure he removed the tie downs, which he did. Tried a little deeper. No help. Brought it back to the shop and I guess I don't have to say what the rigger did. Yup, he screwed the boat to the trailer. If you ever want a good laugh, take a chair and a few drinks to a busy boat ramp , relax and enjoy the show. Most times it is funnier than most comedies you see on TV.

Agree that watching situations on the boat ramp beat anything you'll ever see on TV. <br /><br />My buddy got a dose of humility the time my big motor quit and he was going to run the boat onto the trailer using the (bow mounted) trolling motor, running it at full speed. He couldn't figure out what I was waving at those few seconds before he rammed the trailer and bent the troller shaft all the way underneath the boat.<br /><br />Where would we be without a few good stories like this to get us through the winter?

I almost didn't post this, but what the heck,it appears I'm not the only one who suffers from the occasional brain fart. Around about 3 years ago I was rarin' to get to KY. Lake after some winter slabs. None of my buddies cares much for the freezing and below fishing I love. No crowds LOL. Anyway I got up and there was a exceptionally heavy frost that day , temp. about 25 - 30 degrees. My boat , trailer everything a real pretty , glistening frost . After some fast windshield scraping here I go . Get to the ramp just at first light , and of course there was no one in sight. I go through the usual procedure, unhook transom tie downs, and transom saver. At the time I would tie a long rope to bedrail and hook to bow eye, unhook strap from bow eye and ease her in until she slid off the trailer and I'd walk her to the dock and tie her up, go park truck. Well it went as planned, except about half way through the ease in I couldn't recall if I had put the plug in . I hit the brakes and everything stopped but the boat on the frosty bunks , It slid off until the rope caught and stopped it with just the front 1/3 or so of the boat on the bunks and rear roller, the rest sitting nicely on the concrete! I jumped out and first thing looked around to be sure no one snuck up on me. For a few moments I kinda just stared , with a thousand thoughts going through my mind . How stupid I looked . Then, thank the good lord , I had a brainstorm, LOL. I removed the unhooked strap from my winch,( it was a whole 4 ft. long wouldn't come close to reaching boat), replaced with the end of the rope off bed rail and surprise to me, was able to winch my 15'6 Hydrosport back on trailer enough to get off ground and launch before the other freezing weather slab seekers caught me. I bet no one feels so dumb now , EH!!!<br /> :eek: :eek: KYHunter

My first brain fart was driving 2 hours to the cottage, putting the boat in the water, tying it to the dock, parking the truck and trailer, jump in the boat to start it and sudenly realizing that the keys are sitting on the kitchen table at home :eek: . So now I spend the next four hours driving home to get the keys :rolleyes: .<br /><br />Second was deciding to take the kids for a little ride on Lake Ontario and up the credit river. I put the boat in the water and tie it to the dock. A kid comes running down and say's "Durring the salmon derby you have to pay $5 to lanch". So I run back to the truck grab him some money. By this time about five minutes has passed by, my three kids 2, 6 and 12 are sitting in the boat with my wife. I jump in start it up and head out to the lake but for some reason the boat is really sluggish.... :eek: :eek: I turn around a notice that it is also full of water.... So now I have three screaming kids, a screaming wife and me hanging of the back of a boat trying to put the plug in with upwards of 50 people watching...<br /><br />Third brain fart...wondering why the boat will not come off the darn trailer? It's in plenty deep enough, all the straps are off and the motor's up? After some serious tugging I get it off the traier and pull the trailer out of the water. Figured out my problem, I didn't disconnect the transom saver and it is now draggin behind my traier. This was once again a nice relaxing trek out with the family. :rolleyes: <br /><br />The Fourth brain fart is not mine, really! Last month while tring to get cottage country we are stuck in a serious traffic jam on the 400 (which is the main highway to cottage contry from Toronto and surronding areas). Find out about an hour later that a 25 footer was dropped or flew off of a trailer. The guy didn't tie the boat down and lost it while doing anywhere from 55-75 mph :eek: :eek:

Ok...Before JB takes uh big stick and chases us all out of room.<br /><br />One time this "old salt" docked on the west coast while serving with the seventh fleet.<br /><br />He was in a tavern and noticed this you fellar with the strangest hair do.<br /><br />He had uh orange streak down the middle with brite blue side burns and uh little touch of green in the back.<br /><br />Welt the old salt just stared and kept circleing this young fellar. Young fellar keeps uh weire eye on em for uh few minutes and then finialy ask.<br /><br />Do I know you old timer....Welt I aint to shore sony, came the reply.<br /><br />See one time back bout twenty years ago I got drunk one nite in tieland...And to my suprise when I woke up next mornin.<br /><br />I discovered I had had sex with uh pariot. And I mite add the pariot was even more suprised than I was...as you mite emagein.<br /><br />I wus just wondrin .....if you mite be our BOY!<br /><br />Ok...OK....I quit!

I was begining to think that you,Goodoleboy was that young fello sportin the orange,blue and green hair. <br /><br />Actually extra parts in my case seem to be good. Seems to me that anytime I need a part, It's sunday afternoon and a friggin holiday on monday...or they just decided not to open that day...
