And I know this might be a stupid question, but bear with me, its late!

Does anyone know if there is a list of what years ranges parts are interchangeable for Evinrude motors, I am looking for the parts to change my 1962 Big Twin 40 from pull start to electric start.

I have the parts manuals for both the evinrude big twin as well as the johnson super seahorse, but of course these don't tell the year ranges on these parts.

Thanks in advance for any help

Not a stupid question. You can search here and compare parts for different model years. I don't know of a cross reference for part to model years, but maybe someone else can help.

Re: I am just wondering...

Using the full parts catalog on the BRP website or at shop.evinrude.com would be a tedious way of checking parts for post 1968 motors.
The catalogs linked to above an equally tedious way of comparing parts for 1955 to 1967.

However the parts lists HERE do have the facility to enter a part number and come up with a list of all models (68 and later) that used that part.
Worth trying it even for parts for earlier motors as some parts from pre 1968 were still used long after.

Re: I am just wondering...

I've been finding instances of identical parts from different years which have different part numbers  , I've got a sneaking suspicion OMC may have assigned new part numbers when they changed vendors. I've also found parts with minor little differences (different part numbers of course) which will interchange perfectly well. So... while you will find some of the models which use the same part it'll be impossible to find them all.

Re: I am just wondering...

Well I have narrowed it down a bit, because i want to use the generator set up as well, so I know I need two brackets(generator and starter) as well as the two motors, so I am sure I will need a new flywheel with the geared teeth on the top as well as the geared ring for the starter..in addition, I will need the control box for the starter and the charging system. Does anyone know if there are any other engine modifications I will need to make?

Thanks.

Absolutely. At one time you could find alternative part numbers from the BRP parts list but not any more
