I am looking at a 23 foot 1996 Starcraft 2212. The owner wants 6,200.
From talking to him the V8 mercruiser was rebuilt and transom redone 2 years ago.
Is the starcraft a good boat? The interior could use a refresh No tears just dead color from sun.2011-08-16_20-36-47_710.jpg

Thats a lot for a 14 year old boat that was not covered . You will want to water test it and for that money have the engine looked ver and the outdrive even if you have to pay a few bucks to have oit done. Might suggest to the owner to split the coaost of a good look see. The rest would have to be top of the line also for $ 6200.00 Good luck To bad its not a Aluminum hull check the glass exterior for cracks or damage also.

That price seems fair for a 23' with a V8. The interior looks like it might clean up a bit with some elbow grease. You BIGGEST concern is going to be rot in the wooden components of the hull. You want a solid deck and transom. ANY soft spots in the deck are usually indicative of more serious damage in the stringers below. These things are repairable but it's major time consuming work and the materials aren't exactly cheap. Check it carefully.

The owner said the transom was redone when the engine was rebuilt.

Its pretty rare for just the transom to be damaged by water and rot without the stringers and decking having issues as well.
I dont know where you are located, but for 6K I would pass...

since Kev has articulated what i'd been thinking, i'll pile on.....water moves downward. if the things up high in the boat had to be replaced due to water intrusion and rot, things lower in the boat (esp UNDER THE FLOORING) are almost certain to have water intrusion and rot. this is why so many people here are able to repower their boats with the drivetrain from the thousands of rotted glassers

$6K is pretty big $ and it's really a buyer's mkt in boats due to the economy. i'd keep looking.
