My 87 electric start 25hp evinrude still wont start. I just installed the carb rebuild kit with new needle and seat and i adjusted the float. It still does the same thing its been doing for 3 weeks. It shutters and puts out white smoke and now it backfires a lot and the plugs are wet every time i pull them. Ive tried 2 different sets of plugs with no difference. The engine fired right up when i bought it and then 2 weeks later i tried to start it and have been trying to get it started for about a month now and i am pissed beyond belief about this whole thing. Im assuming the engine is getting way too much fuel and i cant figure out why. adjusting the needle does nothing to help.
It's pretty rewarding when you get a problem like this solved, but then you might kick yourself, when you find out how simple it was......but yea, check your ignition system over. You may have some issues with your coils. Remove the magneto plate and clean it all up nice and check everything over. I bet once you restore your mag plate, it'll run like a champ.
