Ok, now here's the idiot of the day post.
I have a 1961 800 FGS mercury motor. Now I took the top cowl cover off
as is sometimes required, in order to work on it. Guess what, I lost the four nuts for the cover, I also left the cover at the cottage. Now can some kind folk on the boards tell me what size nut I need, and save me driving back to get the cowling.:)

The nuts that fasten down the recoil starter top housing are 1/4-28 Self-Locking. Pick up some flat washers, too..........ed

Thanks ed. saved me an extra trip.
Got plenty of washers there, lots of 1/4 20's too, but I knew it was a finer thread count than 20.
