I'm new to the forum (just posted once before). I have an 86 OMC 5.0L Cobra. Some previous owner had bent the flame arrestor on my boat. I looked it over and decided to take it apart to straighten. BIG MISTAKE!!! There are millions on curved pieces with different ridges in them. A new arrestor is about $90. I'm going to be cheap and try to put it back together now that I have it straightened. Wish me luck! lol

Try ebay. You see them pretty often and not too much money.

Ditto ebay, your sanity is at stake. Also, if you don't get it back together right(and the "bend" damage repaired properly) then it is no longer a flame arrestor. It will just be a silver thing on top of your engine and HUGE safety risk.

Re: I Am So Smart! NOT!!!

Thanks for the welcome! I have gotten lots of good advice from my 2 posts so far!

There are 2 flame arrestors ebay for MerCruiser 4bbl carbs. Shouldn't any 4 bbl flame arrestor work for my OMC 5.0L 4bbl as long as the carb opening is the same?

Thanks,
Danny
