Hey to all, my name is greg. I just bought a 95 sea rayder f 16(picked it up for $500). It runs great but i took it out after i bought it and about 10 minutes into the ride i opened the engine hatch and noticed about 8-10 inches of water in the engine compartment.(yes i had both plugs in..lol). I put th boat back on the trailer and no holes, just a small section of gel coat missing on the keel in the front. where could it be leaking from? please help and thanks in advance.

What kind of an engine do you have? If you don't see any water leaking from the hoses and if you have an IO then pull the outdrive inspect the inside of the Gimbal bearing to see if the seal is broken This seal is about 4" dia and it could be your problem. If you get that much water did you burn out the started motor that should be located low in the engine well?

its the mercury 120. starter seems fine. it still cranks. Its a jet drive boat so im assuming the jet nozzle would be the same as the outdrive on a standard powerboat. The grate on the bottom has a seal around it but it appears to be fine, a couple of small spots look bad. Does would that allow that much water in? this is the first jetboat ive owned and dont know much about them.

the steering cable and the throttle cable both exit through the transom. Perhaps start there. If you take it out of the water and put 8 inched of water in the bildge can you see where it leaks out?
