The one thing that I have come to appreciate about the iboats community is the diverse group that we have here.
We come from all walks of life and all areas of this planet.
And I for one have enjoyed the views of the people that come here whether or not I agree or disagree.
So, has this community we call iboats changed your views about the world around you at all???

Re: I boats people

I don't know that it's changed my view of the world around me at all... It has, indeed, solidified the fact that boater's in general, from all over, are a different breed of people. I say this in only a good way. Remember when you were a kid, and honor, integrity, honesty, and good ethics were the norm? Unfortunately, these qualities are very exceptional today; not the norm. Among boaters, though, I find these qualities to be the norm, and the exception seems to be that of the rest of the world today. We do indeed have a pretty diverse group here. I feel proud, even honored to be part of the iboats community. The people are great, the Mods are great, and this is just a great place to be. I'm really looking forward to the first time I meet a member on the water. I'm glad you started this thread. Thank you for making me think about these things...

A fantastic eclectic group of people!

Just a FYI for all people ......... iboats is spelled and always noted with a small i and no space. Just one of those trivia things we have picked up from the iboats owner's ;) I changed your "spelling"

Re: I boats people

Iboats has caused me to think deeper into many subjects than I would if my opinions weren't being subjected to peer review. Many of our peers here would not be heard were it not for these forums. The format goes a long way towards removing those discriminatory first impressions that inevitably invade a face to face conversation.

Can you imagine how big the room would have to be to contain some of these conversations.

Re: I boats people

Can't say anything here has really changed my views of the world. Now, there have been one or two discussions where someone's comment would make me go, "huh, never thunk of it like that...."

I've always tried to be respectful of other's opinion(s). I don't mindlessly follow the herd.

Re: I boats people

It confermed my view of boaters. I was helping a neighbor replacing a shift cable and had a question. Google led me to iboats. I posted a question and bruce58 gave me immediate answers to solve our problem. Thanks to all, I'm still here. :)

Re: I boats people

I don't know that it has changed my life as such but I can say that I have learned a few things in my time on iboats. I have come to know some great people here on the forum, I have even met some of them by going to the Florida outings that we have had. I agree that the boating community has a lot of the old time values that have been lost on the rest of the world.

I have always believed that neighbors help neighbors and you never charge friends or family for helping them. The iboats community seems to live by these ideals.Thank you to all for making this forum a great source of information.

Don't know about the "changing" thing but I really enjoy reading everyone's views on all the different subjects that are discussed. :)

Re: I boats people

i can't vote. nothing fits.
since all we can talk about is boats here. there's nothing to really change my view on life. it has however changed how i approach being a shade tree mechanic. i'm very likely to be better off by being able to read real mechanics views on repair or replacement.

i would vote for
I have and will retain my old views
but can't since it states i will retain my old views. hopefully, i'm open minded enough that if a respectable argument is presented, i could change my view point....

Re: I boats people

I'm not completely sure about the 'changing' aspect myself but it has given a boatload of insight and information into a lot of other parts of....well the world, although mostly N. America.
Even the posts from a couple of years ago before the new rules provide a lot of insight although often displayed through a pretty belligerent post or response.
I'm constantly amazed at the amount of problem solving ability this forum offers and I wouldn't (don't?) hesitate to post my tech questions regarding...just about anything really.

Re: I boats people

I found it a little difficult to try and craft the poll questions, I should of asked JB for a little help on that one.
I think for myself this place has opened my eyes in a social economic way.
8 months of the year I am here for the boating, but I am here 12 months of the year for the chatting, and I am amazed how much we all have in common in some areas or how much things differ from place to place.

Re: I boats people

The best answer for me was retained old views - for the most part. The iboats forums offer a vast amount of knowledge and a very diverse, yet low key group of regular followers. I just wish I had more time to spend here!

Re: I boats people

I'm just glad to be part of a, for a better word, culture that unites people from many parts of the world that have something in common. I'm blessed to have met some very nice folks on here and hope to meet many more, not in person but through the very tool that makes the world small, the internet. I have learned, however, to bite my tongue on some views that I don't agree with. lol. I do enjoy the hockey bets too.:D:D
