New to me anyway :p

Well I took a ride (round trip was nearly a hunnerd miles) to check out the Honda

three words ...

oh

my

GOD!

the house was a starter castle, monsterous thing, in a neighborhood where the average income had to be, HAD TO BE seven figures, his sculptured, bonsai enhanced front yard alone was over two acres

in the garage is a brand new honda tractor

well, where the hell is the old one? Im thinking, trying to act like I drive up 200 yard long granite cobblestone driveways all the time, and look at a three car garage that has that ferrari that everyone is raving about, with the glass hood in the back

it was getting into dusk time so I wanted to get going, and I said where is the tractor

Right there!

I tried very VERY hard to not look like a kid staring at the shiny red bike under the christmas tree, but this thing is drop dead GORGEOUS, enough to be used as a tag pic (Little Red Tractor? :p )

motor looks like new, steering, like new, seat, paint headlights deck blades all look like NEW! He had all the documentation since buying it new (for five grand! ) and he was a stickler for changing oil and Certified Honda Service (hey hes loaded, whats he care? :D )

the sole missing luxury ... cruise control, but since its a Hydro, and a Honda Hydro at that, I dont think Ill have a problem

Since today was a dialysis day, i was pretty worn out heading out, so when I got back with the tractor sitting pretty on the trailer, I wanted to get it back to the back yard and just be done with it ... and of course, the behemoth Big Red doesnt fit down the driveway (right against the house) so its a case of unhook and move it by hand

usually I can grab that trailer with the Lawn Boy tractor on it (bigger than the honda I think) and heave it right on down the driveway. Tonight it was all I could do to turn it around. That old Lawn Boy fired right up, and once the smoke cleared I chugged it back to the trailer and hitched it up, drug it right on back
Ye Olde Ball and Chain yelled at me, TELL ME YOU DID NOT BUY A BRAND NEW TRACTOR!!!! in a voice that spoke of rolling pins and frying pans
no! its used!

anyway, I like it

can ya tell?

:D :D :D :D

oh yeah, the BEST part of the trip ...

found a backwater gas station ... 2.89 ... AT 9PM TONIGHT! i topped off Big Red (filled tuesday at 3.21 damn it! ) and filled the tractor ... the little guzzler sucked down about three gallons of gas, I guess those 20 horse motors burn some fuel (but with a four foot deck, Ill shut it off sooner)

Interesting thing, towing the tractor the truck got 24.7 mpg at a steady 55, this has made me wonder if a full bore econo-tuning would get it near 30 ... tires at 45, switch all lubes and petroleum fluids to sythetics, put an areodynamic cap on the back ...

not bad for a 300 horse crew cab Z 71!!!!!

Re: I bought a new tractor!!!!

I hope you asked what else he was looking to get rid of!? I went to buy a welder from a guy (not loaded, but he had rebuilt a couple of 50's cars and had a nice well equipped shop)... turns out he retiring and moving west. I asked what else he'd be needing to sell. I ended up buying the welder, a radial arm saw, a pressure washer and 2 chain saws. For a total of <$300. Some stuff was newer, some older, but it was all immaculate and had the owner's manuals. He was happy to get rid of the stuff without advertising it all... For me it was like getting first crack at my dream garage sale.
