I bought the 20hp Johnson-What is the Year

Well I bought the 20hp Johnson and hate to ask the question but what year is it?
model # CJ20CRC0S
Ser # C8206338

The motor is in really good shape was just painted camo last fall unfortunately? I may quote my local body shop on the price to repaint it to the original Johnson colour and get the decal kit .
Does any one have an idea of the paint code and how much it will require and also the decal kit.

Your motor is a 1985 canada variation. The leading C in the model number refers to the canada version of the Johsnon 20hp. The other C is for conter rotation and the R is for rope start. The model is a short shaft since there is no number for the length. The CO stands for 85 and the S is the model run. I

I recently painted the lower unit of my 1982 25 hp and got the correct paint from marinepowerservice.com.

That's a good reading of the model number except for the counter rotating part. The CR in the model number means "Canada Derated Rope Start"

Yes it is a rope start but what do you mean "counter rotating" ???

Your motor is not counter-rotating; counter rotating motors have gearcases in left hand or counter clockwise rotation for use in pairs of larger motors.

I am under 50 so the rope start should not be a problem especially when it has been running.

Sorry for the miss on the counter rotating part. I quess that is why we keep watching this forum.. to learn
