I broke The Fast Idle Lever

I broke the fast idle lever onthe control box of my 1986 ranger 330 v with a Johnson 120 hp tlcdc. I can't get the bolt and nut off to replace it. The nut just spins. Anybody know how to take the old one off so that I can replace it?

Can you get a thin pair of channel locks in behind the lever to grab the flattened head of the stud that the nut goes on? Maybe a pic would help more.
