I agree, now. I used to live in up the Northeast. We had 5 or 6 months of HARD Winter. You really don't want to ride a bicycle through the salt, slush, snow, and ice on a bike that costs more than your car.

Biking in the winter in Maine was even better exercise simply because 1/2 of every pedal movement was tire slippage in the snow. I used to love to see how deep I could ride and still remain moving. Or how long you can skid sideways on the slushy road. Heck, I grew up on a bicycle and am healthy as an ox from it, even though the past few years have been reasonably sedentary (to my standards).

I find it amazing how few people even go outside at all in my neighborhood. Mid-summer and my wife and I are the only ones outside all weekend long. We'll talk for hours in our screen porch and the only thing you see are blue glows in the windows of nearby houses. We even have quite a few 6-12 year olds nearby and I never see chalk on the street (we used soft rocks for chalk as a kid) or forts or even a game of tag.

Thinking back to when I was a kid, I would have gone crazy (and caused everyone in my house to go crazy) if I was indoors all day long. Kids are still kids.. what happens to the boundless energy? Where does it get expelled nowadays?

And that was when there was only 1 B&W TV in the house  and at night everyone watched together, MOM & DAD picked the shows. These days its a crying shame 5 TVs 4 video games etc.. kids trying to insist on what to watch on the main TV, BTW that last part I was thinking of my own home and kids
