regular rings have more spring pressure...this is the force applied to teh cylinder wall....

low tension are just that...smaller springs with less force...they are commonly known to lose tension if overheated...

BUT...the less force means less friction....less friction = more power...:)

You might want to try using a ridge reamer to remove any ridge from the top of the cylinder bore.

nope, found the problem, it was the .165 rings. apparently from 96-00 chevy used alot of different odd ball ring sizes, but went to a few speed shops and they all said the same thing, so ordered them today and will be here tomorrow, i will get back to you tomorrow night after i try to install them.

From a thread in another forum........
apparently from 86-96ish GM used a piston with a shallow oil ring groove requiring shallow oil rings.

THANK GOD!!!!!!!!! i got all 8 pistons in the bores and caps on and torqued down, and rotating assem. is done!!!:D it was thr sealed power E377K which was the .165 shallow groove oil ring with molly top ring. thanks for all the great help, keep an eye out i will post pictures when done and maybe a video of it running if i can figure out how to put it on here.

yes 86-96 calls for "Low-Tension" oil rings...these are the .165 rings for the oil groove...

book shows same ring for 4.3L V6 as well....
