put the lower unit back in and it wont shift to neutral its just in forward

You need to drop the unit put it and the engine in rev. gear and reinstall the shift shaft turned on you while the unit was out--Bob

t took the unit out threw the engine in reverse, so now i reinstall the shift shaft turned on you can you explain exactly how i would appreciate it thanks

Take a pair of pliers and turn the shaft on the unit till you get it in rev. gear that is when the prop will not turn clockwise without turning the driveshaft the reinstall the unit and the upper and lower shaft should be indexed properly
