Re: I D Johnson

Given the number of serial numbers posted on Iboats, it's somtimes possible to estimate the year an outboard was built, but it's impossible to determine it's hp. What's your serial number?

Re: I D Johnson

UPDATE I know the mod.# FD12 is a 1958 18hp after a number of hours on different sites I found a catalog from 1970 and the pic on the catalog is what my motor looks like The pic from 1958-1969 are not the same / Why it has that mod# ? is beyond me Again thanks for the input I'm so

Does the serial number on the transom clamp match the one on the the freeze (actually welsh) plug beach is talking about? If not, perhaps the transom clamp was salvaged from an older 18hp. It's not unheard of for those engines.
Also, be wary that your hood could be from a different engine, as they get swapped a lot over time.

Re: I D Johnson

The ser.# does match But in no way would a hood from a 1970 fit on a 1958 everything matches a 1970 motor shape color ect.

Re: I D Johnson

Oh, that serial number homes in on 1967. What you may have is a misprint: 1967 would have been a FD-21, which is a 20hp.

J2820205 - 1967
J2827881 - 1968 (mabey a mistake)
J2828428 - 1967
J2829652
J2833232 - 1967
J2835115 - 1967
J2835928 - 1967

Sounds like a unique rig anyway!
