Do you need a trailer? Does it have one? Seems like a decent deal to me with a V8, but that assumes that no one else bids on it. You have $8K to spend right?

IMO....I wouldnt buy abything on E-bay, unless I could go and check it over in person. I bought a truck on e-bay, didnt see it in person till I traveled to pick it up. The truck was nothing like was advertised, I lost my #$% on that deal.

If you have to get others to decide the answer is no.

...well I think he wants opinions not decisions, so lets help him out a bit. Looks like a nice boat, sounds like the right stuff has been done...but don't go on that alone.
Do you know anyone near Panama City? Perhaps if you are going to drop thousands of bucks...hiring a local boat surveyor/marine mechanic or equivalent to stop by and give it a couple hours worth of checking would be a good idea. Probably cost two-three hundred bucks for a smart opinion and that person could be found/hired without too much effort I think.
If it doesn't pan out, based on their feedback....no big deal, money saved really.
Good luck.

I agree. If this is your first boat you should have a survey done. Also, from my experience which has been very positive with my first boat, if you have $8k to spend you cant buy a boat for $8k. Dockage/storage, tune-up, skis, tubes, gas, etc, etc............

Go look at it personally before you bid. Take a creeper along to check the keel and underside to make sure there is no damage to the hull. Check for stress cracks all over and especially, at corners and transitions (horizontal to vertical surfaces). Ask him to take you out for a test ride for at least a couple of hours at various speeds including, WOT, cruise, full out trim, etc. Choose a body of water that has some chop to see how it handles/rides. Check that the bilge pump works properly while you're out. Then, I would ask seller if he doesn't mind you or him taking it to your mechanic. Oh wait, he said he just had a full service done. Look up the shop at the BBB to make sure there's no complaints filed against them.

Oh, I'd look at that rust on that trailer, too. Make sure it's not at any welded joints. This could mean trouble later.

Good luck!

.... want something cheap to operate (gas) and maintain....

1) A 5.0L V8 is not cheap to operate on gas.

2) I/O setups are not easy to maintain. At least not as easy as an outboard. Others my disagree.

3) With a wife and 2 kids and wanting to take long cruises on the intercoastal, your family may be happier with a cuddy cabin with a bed, pottie, and maybe even a sink. Look at 19' to 22' cuddys. But they won't be cheap to fuel.

4) For a first boat, I would suggests something smaller, easier to handle and maintain, easier on gas. Maybe a 17' bow rider, preferably with an outboard.

thanks, i have my family in pc so it will be checked out. more interested in opinions on the price and quality of a 99 blue water monte carlo, i know what the nada says, which is no value to me (nada on my jet ski's was 10500.00 they sold for 7500.00:mad: in excellent cond with 7hrs and 1hr on new motors and upgraded double trailer). is this boat comparable to a 99bayliner or a 99 sea ray?

For your sake you'd better hope not! :p

I wouldn't buy anything off of Ebay! My question is why can't he sell it locally? Not to mention the fact that when that much money is at stake you are more than likely bidding against the owner a.k.a. shill bidding. I don't trust ANYONE on Ebay anymore.

Another thing is that I don't believe that boat only has less than 180 hours on it. Ebay sellers are notorious for resetting the hour gauges by replacing them altogether. I had a close friend buy a Quad racer on there, and the owner claimed that it was brand new, and that he had gotten it on a dealer trade. Come to find out he had parts swapped for new plastic, rubber, and engine. When my buddy went to tear down the engine to figure out why it wasn't running right .... the engine looked like it had 500 hours on it with a sheered ring on one of the pistons.

Then there was the fact that when he went to register it with Yamaha they claimed it had been out of warranty due to the Previous Owner registering it 2 years earlier! After all was said and done what my buddy actually had was a 2003 ATV, but the title and plastic said it was a 2005! Go figure!

No more Ebay for me! Fool me once ... shame on YOU. Fool me twice ... shame on ME! :)

i can tell you why he can't sell locally, he is in an area that is overloaded with used boats. almost all of Florida is. $8,000 in this market looks good, if all checks out, seeing the trailer is included. it looks to extremely well maintain for a salt water boat, which is what the Panama City are is. i agree a survey might be a good thing, if you can get there to see it. i have bought and sold boats, motors, and trailers, for the last 5 years. you have to ask the right questions, and then re-ask in a different way,

The price is already over $8K. Looks nice to me.

I buy/sell all the time on ebay. It keeps the lookieloos away.

Ditto.

All financial decisions are made in the first 5 minutes. What ever time after that is just to convince yourself that it's the right decision. That goes for big ticket items, hiring, firing, and marriage.:D

I bought the boat in my avatar off EBAY. The boat started right up when I went to look at it. The boat was at a marina in dry storage on Ebay listed by a broker. I have since put about 2500 dollars into it not including the brand new trailer I had to buy. 1989 monterey 1900 cuddy. I can't complain about Ebay, If you are going to spend that type of money you should go see it in person

I agree i bought and sold boats on e-bay.Some good deals some the guys were hiding things.I would recommend a sea trial if he says no walk away or offer less.
As for a deposit i put one down on a boat one-bay when i went to pick up the boat it was nothing like he said pics only show what they want to show.Plus he kept me deposit, court case pending.
Also he hasnt done alot transactions on e-bay only one person he delt with 7 times.Be careful.
