Hi Guys

I am presently over in Africa working and due home to Trinidad in the Caribbean on the 21st.

I need to replace one of my engines, with a remanufactured long block and I would really like to have the engine either installed or almost completed when I return. I am prepared to pay the $1000+ to have the engine airfreighted home.

My problem is that I cannot find a recomended dealer who would sell me one.

I was back and forth with Raoul in Rapido marine and when I finally get arrangements made with the air freight company to to accept the engine and send it home for me, he tells me that he cannot use my Trinidad and Tobago Mastercard and if I use my JPMorgan Chase Debit card he would have to ship it from Miami to the New Jersey address for my card then I would have to ship it back to Miami, to get it to trinidad. Note this is my sister's residential address.

Its impossible for me to wire money to him from here in Africa. and I have chase online blocked from Houston.

Anyone could advise on a good dealer who may be willing to deal with a Trinidadian with an american boat and so would need american parts for it. if i could get it to florida I could get laparkan airlines to bring it home to me.

Get a FedEx Box. Stuff US cash in the box. Send to Rapido. We americans don't trust or like that there "Foreign Money".

But seriously, some folks do stuff cash into FedEx boxes and ship.

Firstly Im not sure why the mods would want to move the thread, and to where since it is actually asking for advice about getting a reman engine to replace one that members on here would have noticed me constantly fighting with for almost a year. getting water init then not starting then low power then a noise etc.
I have only offered US dollars, generally all my international transactions are in US dollars since i get paid in those and at a USA bank.
I am looking for other options for suppliers of engines who may be willing to deal with me.
Anyone on here ever dealt with michigan Motors, on reman engines. i know one guy who had success with them but I dont see them mentioned on any of the forums.

Sorry to hear about all you're fighting with.

While I have not personally used them, I have read good things about Rapido Marine and their remanufactured engines on a few forums I have frequented. Again I cannot personally attest to their service/quality.

They seem to have decent prices too!

http://www.rapidomarine.com/

Check them out, call/email them and see what they can do. They are also in Florida, so maybe they could ship to the airlines and have your airliner fly it out to you.

I'm not sure what you need but they have long blocks for like $1300 + shipping.

Good luck!

Edit: I noticed they do have international shipping, again for what seems a reasonable price.

This is really sad, i even offer to send a JPMorgan Chase check, and have the guy at Rapido hold the engine until the check clears. then ship the engine out. He was asking me to wire money to JPMorgan chase. and the guy would not even speak to me.
I cannot believe this is the only guy who people on Iboats get good reman long blocks from and he is so hard to deal with.
Someone who understands the system please explain to me what is the difference between, a check clearing. (Note the bank says the check could be cashed instantly) and a wire transfer. in terms of security for the seller.

I think I really need a new supplier now.

Is there really no other reputable reman engine seller who I may be able to get a good engine from. at a reasonable price.

when I search the net I just have to go on the advertising they put out as refrences on their reputation.

I am really lost as to what to do now

I feel really hurt to get a response on here like this.
I have been using this forum since I bought My regal 2760 from Florida in may 2009. I have only found really helpfull and nice people here on Iboats.
I live and all the time before now, worked in Trinidad in the caribbean. In the Oil and natural gas fields that supply over 60% of the US import requirement.
Now that i have been offered a job with a company whose largest share holder is Chevron USA. and happen to be working in Africa, drilling for oil and natural gas, bringing my experience overseas to help in the development of a lesser developed country, I am suddenly a scammer.
It is unfortunate that betayv feels this way. I hope that this is not the way most of I boats think.
Today i feel sad on Iboats.

No Fuss :-(

Re: I feel like forgetting the boat and taking a vaccation with the money :-(

I was eventually able to get the engine from Michigan Motors. Had it air freighted down to Trinidad and the mechanic was almost totally done with it by the time I got home and then down to the marina yesterday.
Started right up and sounds good. will water test and hopefully have no problems with the engine. I guess with the type of reputation that Rapido has they dont need to accept business from outside the usa. or dont need to try to work with new customers if they dont feel like it.

I must say however customer service at Michigan motors is tops and they really ensure your engine is properly packaged and prepared for export.

Thanks to all who offered advice.
and to the others im back home in Trinidad now so i am hopefully no longer considered a scammer. LOL. I can actually laugh at it now.

still No Fuss :)

Glad everything worked out for ya, eventually. Maybe having a connection with somebody in the USA could remove some of those situations in the future.

I'd be interested to hear how that engine from Michigan motors works out. I'm buying an engine late this month for my boat too and am considering Rapido and a few others.

I have a buddy with a 4 banger in his Larson from Michigan Motorz and he's going on 130-140 hours without a hitch.
