Im looking for a new boat but my funds have been reduced. I found this add and thought I should ask if anyone has heard of this type of boat. I cant get pics on here but it looks pretty good. Im looking to use this mostly in florida's intercoastal and rivers. Please let me know what you guys think and if you have any info. THANKS

17ft Brandt speed boat with a 70hp Evenrude [/U]and drive on trailer. I have completely restored the boat using only high quality parts. It has a new floor, new carpet, new seats, a new paint job, new wiring, and bow and stern lights plus much more. The trailer was built specifically for the boat. The trailer has new bunks, new brake lights, new fenders, new bearings, and fresh coat of rust proof paint. This boat is one of a kind and fast. I built this boat to last. I have to sell because bills are piling up. My LOSS your GAIN.

I am asking only $1,200.

I can't just say go for it' You'll have to go check it out, take it for a spin and give her a good looking through, All boat's sounds like good boats until you actually buy it and find out you should have check it out, Don't just take their word for it, see it for yourself. Just my 2 cents

I've not heard of Brandt speedboats (have heard of sailboats), but that would not discourage me at that price. If the seller has gone through the boat as it states, it may be a great buy if you're looking for a speedboat. Not much info about the motor though?

Go look at the work, get a test ride, take pics and post here. I might give $1500. Ha! jk

Re: I found this for sale? Anyone know if its worth it?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I got a responce to an email I sent the seller of the boat and found out its a 1972 hull with a 1979 motor. Its also a 2 stroke and has no electric tilt. Are most of these old motors 2 stroke?

Bart Sr. What do you mean if I can access them to check the stringer? Whats a stringer?

I also found this ad for another boat Im thinking might work. If anyone thinks this is better let me know. Or if you have any idea how this hull might perform. I kinda like this style boat more.

1973 Checkmate MX16 classic speed boat. 115 HP, Mercury outboard with tilt and trim, galvanized trailer. Everything works. Runs out great, good compression, new floor, ski pylon. Could use new gel coat and interior work. Original instruments, gauges, etc. With a little TLC this can be a beautiful boat! I can demonstrate in lake. $975 or Best Offer. Would consider trading for good home Central AC.

I am athinkin that you have a few questions and answers that need to be addressed before you buy a boat.
first, what do you need your boat to do for you. Are there going to be others, waterski, fish, camp.
used or new
whats your budget
what do you look for in defects
all these and more questions are in here just read through past posts or ask:)

Stringers are support ribs attached to the inside of the hull and go from bow to transom under the floor/deck. I mention this because both boats you are looking at have had the floor/deck replaced. If they were replaced due to rot the stringers condition would be suspect. For me that would be a major issue.

Bart Sr. Ohhhh, I see. THANKS for the tip. Thats defenitely something to look for. Im guessing you have to find any opening to look into and just look around?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated this will be my first actual boat. I just sold a 10ft tunnel hull mini speed boat that was not what I thought would be. Very rough to ride with more than 1 person. It was also a bit scary. Only good on really flat waters. I sold it two weeks after buying it.

Re: I found this for sale? Anyone know if its worth it?

Sounds to me like you want to own a boat but have no idea about boating. In my opinion that's perfectly all right, it's how I started and I've never looked back. We can help you out here!! That's what this forum is for.

My advice would be to look for around a 17-18 foot open bow. This is the most versatile boat you can get. Good for fishing, cruising, lounging, tubing, or whatever you want. Not the best for any of these things but the best package for doing all of these things. After you have owned your boat a few years you will have a better idea what you want.
If your price range is $1500 give or take you won't get much. I would think that if you got a 17 foot open bow and it lasted 4 seasons without any major issues you got your moneys worth out of it and could be happy even if you had to scrap it. If you want something that will last a little longer you are going to have to spend more or get your hands dirty.

Another good option in your price range (maybe the best option) is to look for a 14-16 foot aluminum with an outboard. These are cheap, easier to maintain, good on gas, and don't have wooden stringers to worry about. They do have a wooden transom however but that's not that bad to replace in a 14-16' tinny. A boat like this won't do the things a worn out open bow does, but it won't be a money pit either. At least not as much of a money pit and you will have something you can keep for as long as you are willing to do reasonable upkeep.

Of course this post is just my opinion and should not be taken as an "expert opinion". I just hope that a little discussion helps you to get into something that you don't regret like the last one.

Re: I found this for sale? Anyone know if its worth it?

Not trying to sound ugly, but on your budget you are buying into a lot of work. So do you have tools, time and skills, and a good amount of money for parts? Do you care if the boat is out of commission for a couple of weeks at a time? Just know what you are getting into.
Also your used boat inventory will likely be salt water boats, so the old ones will need more work and the engines more likely to be beyond repair practically speaking.
If you'r egoing for an old one, keep it simple. No electronics or gadgets. However tilt is something you want on a 70+ especially if you do any boating in shallow water.

Re: I found this for sale? Anyone know if its worth it?

no idea, sorry. I found this looking for information about my Brandt ski boat. any help out there? I have a 17' Brandt ski boat hull number 2, it has a 350 sbc engine with a stright inboard . I have looked for information trying to find out if there are any more of them left. I was told from the seller there were only 5 built and went out of production.
If you know of any of these boats let me know. Please. Thanks
