I know I should be happy, but I am going to miss being a housewife, spending time with Sam and the kiddos, cooking, cleaning, washing the boat, the vehicles, doing all the yard work, running all the errands, painting, and doing all the honey do's.

Oh well, the pay stunk.

I am now the new Exeuctive Director for the Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership. The district's council member is hosting a forum on Tuesday where I will be introduced and give my speech.

Galveston's historic downtown is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The architecture is gorgeous but it still has a long way to go with renovations to some of our oldest buildings.

Our downtown is filled with all kinds of speciality shops, galleries, an opera house, great restaurants, etc. but has suffered a slow decline when they built a big mall on the mainland.

Businesses are moving out regularly due to the high rent. They just can't seem to make a profit in the offseason. They need help, I hope I can take them to the next level and attract new business and keep the ones we have.

I'll be planning events, etc to create traffic, doing a lot of puclic speaking and cleaning up some of the areas that are an eye sore. I'll be working closely with the Chamber, our council woman, the Economic Development Committee and all the business owners.

My office is right in the middle of the Strand area where most of these businesses are. I have a part timer in the morning to help with office work which will be a nice change.

They were extremely careful in their choice so I'm flattered they have the faith in me to carry out such a task.

It is a prestigious position and was a good career move despite the salary setback. I can afford to take the offer right now after some creative accoutning but hope to be able to give myself an increase somewhere down the road. After 7 months being out of work, any money is welcome.
