Been working at the same place 16 years. we're primarily an auto supplier, so times got really tough after the big meltdown in late 2008-- everybody's pay was cut 25%.
Through the tough times I believed in my company, and worked hard doing my part to get the company back on its feet. In that time we were working on a product that might turn things around for us, a product that could sell a lot and had nothing to do with the auto industry. I'm the IT guy, and my job was developing a website for the product and doing the online marketing, which I worked really hard to do, and successfully-- Google hits for this product are first page. The website I built got high marks from everybody. Last year my boss promised me a commission on online sales of the product when it was ready. Well, a month ago I brought it up and he weaseled out of his promise. Said 'maybe' I'd get a 'bonus sometime' instead. This after I worked extremely hard on building and marketing the site with the expectation of a commission, while struggling to make ends meet on 75% of my old pay. And business is improving, but no sign of restoring anybody's full pay.
So I sent resumes out, and I got a lot of replies-- even in this SE Michigan market! Got a sweet offer on my second interview. I took tomorrow and Tuesday off, and Wednesday morning I go into work and tell my boss I quit.
