I got my pictures back!!

About two years ago one of my hard drives died. Inside were all the pictures I had taken since I got a digital camera...about 5gb worth. I tried various peices of software designed for drive recovery, but nothing worked. Last week I finally sent the drive off to a data recovery place...it worked!

My best friend, Hoover, died a couple months ago. Now I have about 200 pictures of him that I thought were gone forever. d

Hoover looks like a really good dog, ZmOz. One that would be a best friend, and one that would be sorely missed.

now, how did they do it? I know it was priceless but was it expensive?

I'm not entirely sure what they did...but it involved disassembling the drive in a clean room and either fixing it or removing parts to read in something else. (I didn't get the drive back) It cost $450...though I would have spent thousands.

Now...everyone go backup your pictures, NOW!

I agree. Its worth backing up pictures. You never know when a Drive will fail, and if its your main drive your are up a creek.

Definately have multiple copies of all your files. I keep copies of my pictures, music and all other important files on my system hdd as well as an external USB hdd. If one fails I still have my stuff. I occasionally cram a bunch of it onto CDs also but we've been finding CDs don't really last forever.

Wow, I knew those recovery places were expensive but I didn't know it was that much. Costly lesson for sure. Once my music collection stared getting really big I began to realize how devastating it would be to lose it and I started always having a second (or in my case third) drive in the computer for back-up. Good piece of mind and not very expensive at today's HD prices.
