I Got One!!!

Well I'm sitting in the terminal at Philly airport waiting for my flight home drinking the best cup of D-D coffee I've ever had & oh yea I'm the proud new owner of a 1969 Starcraft Chieftain. I'm picking it up next Thursday. I'll post a couple of pics and more details when I get home. I feel like I just joined a fraternity and I didn't have to have relations with a farm animal to be accepted...

Well just hold on there a dang minute Alpheus. Don't tell me you went through all this and didn't read the fine print?
I hear Jas does some weird stuff with cats, and I believe CBK might too.

Congrats on the boat and Welcome. I will take care of the first years dues, but your on your own after that.

I cant believe it. All the pics I took with my phone didnt save.

Well after a huge SNAFU with the rental car company I ended up taking a taxi over to Joes house. (owner) I couldnt stay very long because it was cheaper to just have the cab wait for me than to call him back to pick me up.Joe said He bought this boat brand new in 1969. I got to looking at the boat and figured I could talk him down by picking it apart. He told me the engine hadnt been started in 2 years. I figured great if the engine wont start that will drop the price. Nope. He put his battery in and the darn thing fired right up with 3 pumps of the gas. He showed me all the receipts of the engine rebuild that was done 3 years ago along with new riser and manifold. Also had new impeller,bellows and shift cable installed at the same time. The only thing I could find wrong with it is its gonna need a new transom, deck and a new paint job. Joe had painted it 5 years ago with left over house paint. I offered Joe 1000 bucks for it but we met at 1300. Thats a good enough price for me. I mean its a new engine and all the maintenance is done already.

Uhmmm, I hate to tell you about the admittance to the I/O fraternity, there is a sorta initiation.

A) You must brag up I/O's until you draw the ire and wrath of EZ.

B) This is a little harder, it involves a mullet.

Those two and you're in the fraternity of the Strarcraft I/O.

We like to talk pirate too. This isn't mandatory but some of us think it's cool.

Don't know about the IO but the transom replacement on my OB was a snap. Lifted the OB off with an engine hoist.

Comes time to rehab the boat and gut it an OB comes off in a flash!

What a nice old rig, congrats and welcome to the fleet Alpheus

Looks like all the important stuff is there, the transom/deck rebuild is not bad.

Having a motor with only 30hrs on it, and fully intact it is a great deal

Are you gonna drive it home on the intercoastal waterway?

Tell ya what, finding a good deal on a 22' Chieftain is not an easy task.

But...

Finding an up to date, rebuilt, all maintenance completed, running condition IO is a rare thing indeed!!

You'd likely have an easier time finding a leprechaun chilling by his pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Interesting...There seems to be a pattern here.

Sidenote: Going down the interstate yesterday and passed a 24' CC with 3..yes three Honda 350HP OB's on the back. Talk about shameless showboating. Yeah, I'm jealous.
