Remember this thread from back in May about some kid or kids who stole a cast iron chiminea? http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=477079
Here is a bit of an update: Hurricane Irene washed out a gravel road on an neighbors property. This is a large working farm and the gravel road is just a few hundred yards down the road from my driveway. My neighbor had his 'dozer out repairing the road, and went down to the stream that was partially filled in with the washout from the road. When he was down in the stream, low and behold he sees my Chiminea half covered in the wash out. Having been to our house numerous times with his family, and spending hours sitting around the chiminea at night, he recognized it right away. It now is in my back yard in pieces. Unfortunately, it is damaged, and missing one iron leg and has some cracks in the iron. I guess it can be welded back together if the missing leg is found. Neighbor said he has a metal detector and will look for the leg, as I would like to get this thing welded up.
I called the State Police and filled them in on where and how it was found. And suspiciously, where the chimminea it's location is right across the street from a know problem "kid". This kid is now 22-23 years old, and still apparently lives at his parents house.
Right now I'm waiting for the investigating detective to call me about the recovery of stolen property. My wife had gotten a call last week from the detective, saying that he not not forgot about the theft, and that there were other similar reported incidences in the area past month or so.
My neighbor who found the chiminea, knows this kid well, and says this is exactly the kind of thing he does.
Even if the kid is not brought to justice, hopefully Carma will get him.
