Oh boy, does that get me going! Someone has the nerve to come into my yard and take my stuff??? WTF???? I thought that only happened in crappy areas.
I called the local State Police to report the theft and they came and took a full report, spoke to neighbors, etc.
What happened was this past Monday night two or more people came into my yard (3.5 acres) right up to the house and took a Chiminea outdoor fireplace that was standing on the patio with a cover on it. That is all they took.
I thought I hear people laughing around midnight. I stayed in bed listening for about 10 more minutes until I realized (aka finally fully woke up) that the new utility trailer is just sitting on the lawn next to the driveway. So I got up and put on all the floods, lights up the yard like Giant Stadium on a game night. Went outside and the trailer was still there, I could not hear anyone, or see any vehicles, etc. It was a clear cool night, and then the Coyotes started a riot (probably taking an injured deer or the like) a few hundred yards away, and I decided it was the Coyotes howling I mistook for voices.
Last evening around 5 pm I noticed the chimenea style outdoor fireplace was missing. At about 150 lbs of cast iron, its not easy to move, plus ashes and wood left from this past weekend would make it even heavier. Well some idiots decided that is what they needed, and came and took it. Left the boats alone, left the shed with the motor bikes alone, didn't take anything else (including the brand new trailer, or 3 brand new patio umbrellas at $100 each, that were laying about 6 feet away and the brand new $900 Weber gas grill about 8 feet away in plain view). They also did not mess with the cars in the driveway, or try to break into the house.
I live on a corner of two roads (a T intersection where the through street is on my side yard) in a quiet rural area. Across the street on my side is a large dairy farm. Across the street from my front yard used to be 20 acres of hay fields, but in the last 4 years a house went in with barns and horses. They are the closet house to mine, about 800 feet front door to front door in a straight line. Another neighbor on my side is hidden by a row of 40' Blue Spruce, and again about 800 plus feet door to door in a line. My neighbors are all good friends and were at my house this past weekend for a cookout.
Go figure. The Chimenea is not visible from the front or side yards. My guess is that they knew it was there because they saw the light from it this past weekend and the party activities on the deck and patio. The only people (outside of neighbors) who knew the Chimenea was there are friends and family, and all live about an hour drive away.
My guess is some local losers (like the Marine drop-out who lives down the street) took it. They had to see it in use at night, otherwise there is no way they would even know its there.
Oh well, just a little pissed, just adds more stress to an already stressful week. Insurance will not cover the cost of a Chiminea. My deductable is too high.
What kind of idiot steals a cast iron chimenea outdoor fireplace when there are lots of more valuable things to steal that weight less right in sight?
Geez, who needs this crap?
