I got screwed! rant

I remember that engine well. It is/was an HT 4100. The HT stood for "here's trouble".

If you are inclined, you'll have a hard tme finding one.

Sorry about the hard luck. You may get more than you thought, parting it out. Things like glass and little doo dads are hard to find for a car like that.

Thats a bad lesson to learn, but thankfully you are only out a small bit of loot. One thing I always do when I buy a car that supposedly runs is to take it out on a highway and drive it far enough so it will fully warm up. By the time you get back to the owners place, you can then pop the hood and look it over and tell if/where it is leaking. If the car is inoperable like yours was, I'll walk, because there is always another car. I have seen people spend way more money than you did and get the same raw deal, so in a way you are fortunate. I see no reason you can't part that thing out or sell it whole and recoup at least part of your costs.

I did buy a 1980 Subaru wagon one time with a horrible front main seal leak. I had to stop every ten miles or so to add a quart, but I at least knew it had the leak, got the car cheap, and spent something like $10 and a half hour to fix it. That car could not be killed. I still see it around...Good luck...

Lubedudes got thre right attitude.
For $300 you got a body & frame, it's up to you to make it go. 454 sounds about right to me.

Re: I got screwed! rant

Well, I got talking about it at work today, and my boss and co-workers gave me an idea, patch the hole in the block with J.B Weld!

Sure seemed like a hell of an idea, it says right on the tubes that its good for cracked engine blocks. I got all excited, draged the car back in the shop and got ready to JB up the hole. I took a little grinder and cleaned the metal around the hole, and then took a heat gun to it in an attempt to get it as dry as possable. Well, when it started to heat up, more coolent started pooring from somewhere, turns out there is another hole towards the top, its in a bad spot where their is no way it could be patched without pulling the engine out of the car, and at that point I'd be better off just replaceing it anyway, so I'm back where I started.

I put it on cragslist and got like 6 calls on it today, one guy want to see it ASAP, so it shouldn't be around much longer, I'm just looking to get some money back and be done with it, I've got bigger prolbems then this car right now and need my attention, this is on the back burner.

A project car right? Well get to work you got one....$300 for a car with a bad engine..sounds about right.
It seems to me you didn't get screwed, you were mislead and taken advantage of but most of that is on you. I agree with the poster that implied you got anxious and bought somthing you thought was just what you wanted without investigating further-lesson learned.

I cant say I would expect much more from a $300 car, and to go and make a threat just isnt smart. You have a lot of growing up to do, I can say that as I am 22 years old and remember your age well, when you reach your early 20's you will problably look back and realize what I said was true. Before you tell me I am just a kid still, I have a wife, degree, a carrer and own my own home.

Yep, and you still don't know what its about J. I'm 31 and have the same things, plus many more. I figure in 10 more years I'll be twice as smart as I am now. Its a never ending story, till ya die that is. Life is a great teacher, sure wish you could be born with the knowledge so you didn't have to wait till you were too old to use it.

sorry about the engine, but as others have said, i wouldn't expect much more for $300. not to sound like a d**k, but i spent more than that at the bar a few days ago.

more importantly, this post got me to thinking about life, age, and education. it seems to me that when you're young, you think you know everything. the older you get, you look back at the young people and think they are dumb and know nothing. in reality, it seems you gain knowledge as you grow older, but at the same time, the kids are smarter and smarter at younger ages. no idea what i just said, except that i think both sides need to give the other a break.

In defense of the rant.

I suddenly feel compelled to defend Ryan a little, although I am sure he doesn't need defending. Anyway he did introduce the topic as a "Rant" and ranting isn't always rational well thought out or mature, thats why we call them rants, just outburst of frustration. He didn't really ask for all the feedback he recieved, fromme included, and he did acknowledge that he could have been smarter...
just my .02...Peace

As you get older, you gain judgement as well as knowledge. As Will Rogers said "good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement."

Originally posted by Ryan T.:
Take it easy pal, I said that I'm done with him and I'm just going to cut my losses, I stated what I do know, thats a fact, not a threat. the guy screwed me over, and if I can make him loose a few minuetts of sleep tonight, well good, maybe he'll think twice before doing it again.

Dirrection in life? Are you serious? get a touch with whats happening in the real world, and not just what you read on your computers. . . or at least grown some balls.

I dont know why I even post here
Not sure what your rant or my advice to stop making threats and sounding like a thug has to go with me reading my computer or the size of my balls???

You wrote: I know where he lives, red roof inn, he's a bum. I told him he might wanna be sure he puts his deadbolt on, and that I'd be back..... but that was just to scare him , I know that I'm not getting anything out of him.

And: I've got his full name and address, and know what he drives, so if we wanted to play those games I'd win.

And: I thought I'd set a little fear into him. I sized him up pretty good when I was buying it from him, he's quite a bit smaller then me, and seemed a little cracked out, after all, he was living at the Red roof inn! I could sh!t stomp him if it came down to it.

******************

I hoped that more here would be clear enough to let you know that thinking/writing like that is trouble, regardless of the size of your balls (or mine?).

As far as direction in life, yes I do think you need it. Buying a car and then making angry threats about the guy who sold it to you.... that's NOT okay Ryan. And yes, too often violent thoughts turn to violent actions IN REAL LIFE.

Think of it as intervention, some that I think you need, and for the record... telling someone that does take balls.

Good luck.

The “rant” contains two subjects; one with the element of getting ripped off – not good, and one with the element of inappropriate behavior in response to getting ripped off – also not good.

I think if the rant focused on one of those two elements the replies would have, also.

All in all, it impresses me as kind of one of those “two wrongs don’t make a right” things.

Ryan, did you transfer the title yet? If you didn't, put the car in an area that it will be towed and impounded. As long as the car is still in his name, he is responsible for it. That is how I would get my revenge. Let him spend his time answering to the city for the tow, and impound fees. I know you won't get any money back, but there would be satisfaction knowing that it will come back on to him.

BTW, that butt munch that needed the $30 for fixing his tire has yet to stop and return my money. That makes it rough on the next guy that will ask for my help.

Good Luck Ryan :)

Re: I got screwed! rant

While I'm replying to a rant....I think I have to do some ranting of my own. When did men loose their balls ? Who or what caused you to believe that you could do anything you wanted without some penalties or reprocussions ? Do you really believe that "all men are created equal" ? First of all, despite what you see on CSI or most of the court tv crap, if you buy something that is stated as "AS-IS, Where IS" you are buying what you see at that moment, it is up to YOU to determine what you are buying and investigate as you see fit.....there are no "Dissclosure laws" for cars other than odometer readings. Unless the seller states in writing "all systems function normally" or "you can return for full refund if not satisfied" it is your baby...period. On the other hand, there are a-lot of "good old boys" out there, if you are stupid enough to screw someone bigger and badder than you....guess what ? You may just get your arse handed to you. While I cannot condone threats in a public forum ( it is too much evidence against you), I have no problem with someone who got screwed telling the person who screwed him to watch his back. In this case, I sure would not POST threats against this guy, I would quietly do what I thought needed to be done. For the wimpy people out there, yes, I am advocating violence against people that screw you. I look at it this way, If I am selling something that I do not know about or am unsure of, I am going to tell you to check it out as you see fit, if you decide to buy it, I don't care if it catches fire and burns two minutes after you bought it...that is your problem. However, if you are Tony Sapranno(from the hbo series about gansters), I would probably tell you it is no longer for sale....look elsewhere). On the other hand, if you were stupid enough to sell Tony Sapranno a piece of crap.....be ready to have your balls handed to you.
