I got the boat out today

What a nice weekend. Temps in the 65 to 75 all most no wind. I got the wild hair and fired the boat up man it was nice. Funny thing happened I went around the lake and got to one of the boat ramps and found a 06 or 07 dodge truck in the water up to the windows. I wish I had a camera.

I haven't been out in months. My brother took off in his boat on a fishing trip the other day though with his co worker, they didn't catch a thing. They seen 2 deer swimming across the lake, which my brother had to stop the boat and make a double take to make sure he wasn't just seeing things. They shined a spot light at a cat on a pier which they think blinded the poor thing and it walked off the end of the pier and fell into the water . They went and got the cat out of the water and placed it back on the pier.

I find it funny because my brother just got through with hunting season (which he did kill one), and here he goes fishing didn't catch any fish and sees 2 deer swimming in the lake.

It will be at least all of Feb, all of March, and probley most of April before I get my boat out. If even then, I'll be to busy then.

Calling for mid 70's here tomorrow.Too bad my carbs are rebuilt and setting on the work bench and all my new manifold and exhaust gaskets arrive by the big brown truck tomorrow afternoon..
I would go fish off the docks but i need to pour a concrete pad for the travel trailer...always something to do..

I believe it happened Saturday. They had to back into somebody's boat house to get the poor cat out of the water . I could just hear it now if it was me backing into somebodies boat house to get a cat out, the owner would be running out of the house with a shotgun hollering hey what are yawl doing in my boat house. lol.

Dang it yawl have me wanting to break out the fishing pole, and go out back to the fishing hole, (my uncles pond).

Yep, this is another one of those topics that makes me want to move south even more. My favorite lake is frozen over, along with all the others that is close by. Lake Erie isn't frozen, but 33* water temp is just too friggen cold to go out in. Makes it real hard pulling fish in that is soaking wet with long johns and winter coats

I guess I could build a fish house and go ice fishing. I'm always nervous about walking on water though.


Walking isn't so bad. But, driving and listening to those cracking noises is scary.

When i was a kid living in NW Ohio and southern Michigan we used to drive out on the lakes...We were idiots!..

As a kid in Minnesota I saw city snow plows out on the lakes clearing 'roads' to the ice shanty 'village'. Never went out on the lake ice myself, though. I don't think the ice is thick enough these days for that stuff, though.

My granddad would go out on the Mississippi by the Quad Cities in winter to cut huge blocks of ice. These would get hauled off, packed in ice, and used all summer to keep things cold in the ice boxes. Mechanical refrigeration ended that, but now the river doesn't freeze over like it did back then.

They still have ice plows and, in fact, entire villages built on the ice up nort of me. Around here in southern MN people still drive in the ice and most often have no problem. It's been a cold winter this year and the ice is suppose to be safe. Some years you can do it. Some years you can't do it. I have done it but, I'm just not keen on the idea. Besides loosing you car/truck you have to pay someone to go scuba diving in the winter to hook a cable to the vehicle and then they need a special rig to drag it out. As you can imagine it cost sacks of money. Plus the fines from the DNR and such. I don't want to even think about how bad it would be.
