My new puter's OS is Vista home premium 64 bit. Since getting it I have not been able to upload any pictures. I have searched for answers forever with no results except others having the same problem. I played around with file sharing and could have sworn it worked once but that was all. Anyone else have this problem or know the fix? I sure miss my WinXP.

Re: I hate Vista

You can install Win7 RC right now. I am using it now on all of my PC's save one and LOVE it. It is totally stable, nicely polished (yes, I said polished about a product from MS!) and runs everything XP and vista run. I find myself amazed every time I say it.. MS really made a nice, well though out, stable OS that just works. I KNOW! It's weird just saying it!

I have the release of it, but haven't bothered to install it yet, as the RC works just fine. Just wait until you try Office 2010.. Outlook isn't slow anymore!

What route are taking to upload the pictures? Are you trying to post them online, or just put them on your computer? If you're trying to upload online then I would suggest trying a different browser for starters & then another online photo service.

I've only had problems finding drivers for older peripherals and I expect I'll have the same problem with Win7. Other than that, I haven't had any problems.

For instance, if I go down to manage attachments (this always worked with WINXP), select a picture making sure its not too big, then click "upload" it will say "Uploading File(s) - Please Wait" and stay there until it times out and says I may have lost my connection. It does this with IE7, IE8, and Firefox.

Re: I hate Vista

I have a Vista 64 system with no problems.

So your saying you can't upload anything anywhere?
Or just to this site?

Few must things to make Vista run smooth.

# Turn off User Account Control in Windows Security Center.
# Defrag your drives weekly.
# Run CCleaner(free program) weekly.
# Clean out your temp folder in the (Main drive)/Users/(pc name)/AppData/Local/Temp.... Clean weekly.
Appdata is a hidden folder. you'll have to turn on show hidden folders in folder options.
# Run spybot(free program) weekly.

Vista is not a forget it software like XP was. You can't let things build up or go for periods of time without doing maintenance. Stay on top of maintenance and your Vista will run very smooth.

I have Vista Premium, I have no problems...I actually like it a lot compared to XP etc. Sounds like you have a browser issue not a OS problem, have you tried compatibility mode adjustments in IE? Some forums don't display correctly (pop-ups etc.) in IE unless you set up compatibility mode under the "Tools" section on the toolbar.

Re: I hate Vista

I bought a new Lenova laptop and it had Vista home on it. I had it removed and put XP on it. I won't go with Win7 yet until all the bugs get out of it. Now Vista Premium is suppose to be a lot better, but I'm use to XP so why change it.

Re: I hate Vista

I've been working? with HP support on the problem and so far all they do is keep asking the same questions over and over. I can't find anywhere that my old router is compatible with Vista 64 so I'm going to get a new one tomorrow that is MS certified to work.

Re: I hate Vista

Your OS will not affect how your router works, the IP communication standard is the same across all computers. Have you tried adjusting your compatibility modes settings?

Re: I hate Vista

we have two lexmark x6170's all in one bought new and taken care of.
hardly used, not a scratch or anything, look and work new.
but not compatible with vista and have tried their fix but does not work.
lap top and desk top both vista and and just won't work.
have an older "2 yrs" toshiba lap w/xp and lexmark works perfect.
just picked up a new hp all in one and works fine with both comp's running vista.
what bothers me is you know they knew and designed it that way.

Glad to hear your problem is solved. I never could wrap my head around that quirk.

I beg to differ.

We have simple switches and routers, and some Cisco stuff where I work. We had a couple of ports in a conference room where we let inspectors plug in, DHCP, and use our internet. When they started plugging in Vista, it took all the switches in the place down, sophisticated or not. You ought to deal with a room full of engineering draftsmen that just lost their connection to the server.

Could never figure out what was going on. I think there's something in the way Vista does IPV6 that hoses the switches. Fix was to put in a cheap wireless router on it's own line and take out the wires.

In a highly diversified, highly technical shop, Vista is useless to dangerous.
