Interesting..................Giving someone a free copy of an owners manual for a product that is no longer manufactured by a company no longer in business would be in violation of a copyright law? If in fact that is the case then I retract my offer because even though I think that is the biggest waist of a law I would not want to break any laws trying to help our fellow motor owners out. Would you be able to tell me if it is against the copyright law to qoute from a manual? If not then my offer goes like this:
I have a Sea King 7HP Manual for the model XTV-27270. If anyone would like me to quote any part of this manual to them for informational purposes only at no charge I will do so upon request.
My sarcasm is directed at the law and not you JB. Actually, thanks for keeping me honest!
I don't think quotes would violate a copyright, Ikaskel. As long as the publisher has the manual for sale or it can be sold by a vendor, even on eBay, it has value.
I read this post because my dad had an old Sea King in the early 1960's. Made me curious about copyright laws, so I seached the web. See: http://www.unc.edu/~unclng/public-d.htm
If I read this correctly, if this manual was copyrighted before 1963 and not renewed (presumably because the company went bankrupt), the manual could be in the public domain.
