Re: I have finally bought a boat!!

although a engine would be nice
The two happiest days in a boat owners life, "The he buys his boat and the day he sells it"... I don't believe that quote though because I have had my 24' boat for 7 years and like as much as the day I bought it.. It's a 1983 build with a 1996 Johnson 225 on it.. Just a word of advice, the engine cowling (cover) keeps the engine pretty quiet but you can also take the cowling off, tear out the foam lining (if it has any) and line the cowling with sound deafening material. It will be much quieter and your mum wont mind it. If I were you, I'd go with a big 2 stroke and use

Also, just putting around with the family, the big 2 will not suck all that much gas. 10% of HP = Fuel burn at WOT 5500 RPM. I.E. 225 burns 22.5 GPH @ WOT 5500 PRM, but merely 11-13GPH at optimal cruise around 4300-4400 RPM. At slow cruise/idle I would imagine it could be as low as 4-7 GPH at 1500 RPM. Just a rough guess but I hope all this helps.. God speed and happy boating..
